Allow Martinez and Chatwin the opportunity to give you real results.  We, Nico Martinez and Bailey Chatwin, are running in the name of the students they wish to serve for the positions of ASLMU President and Vice President.  Nico Martinez is a junior Political Science Major and Theater Arts Minor who served as an ASLMU senator for two consecutive years.  Nico works at the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Office and is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and Ignatians Service Organization.  Bailey Chatwin is a junior Communication Studies Major and a Business and Dance Minor.  Bailey works for MANE Entertainment and is a sister of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Additionally, we are avid supporters of the athletic community. After returning from Study Abroad, we are reinvigorated with school pride, ready to serve our fellow peers.  Our involvements with LMU thus far will provide a diverse background and unique perspective necessary to uphold the importance of the positions as ASLMU President and Vice President.

If elected, we will ensure our greatest level of integrity and accessibility. We feel that ASLMU’s continued mission should be to uphold transparency with students and that is exactly what we intend to do.  It is our goal to use our relationships to foster a united LMU community, bringing together all aspects of the student body.  As President and Vice President we will celebrate the diversity of our campus and encourage joint programming amongst the different amazing organizations. Lastly, we would like to work on campus sustainability and use our positions to promote mindful management of resources, enhancing the LMU experience.  With this, we hope to serve our fellow students in the most positive and impactful way possible.

The name of our campaign is LMUforU: Lash and Marina for you. We intend to represent the diverse concerns of students across the campus. Our first step in doing so was administering a climate survey to the broader LMU community. We received over 200 responses in which we were able to expand our view of the concerns students have for change they wish to see in the upcoming year. From the survey, we concluded three major issues we wish to improve upon, including consciousness of mental health, transparency between the student body and student leaders, and awareness of commuter and transfer student opportunities. The following are concrete components of our platform that we anticipate carrying out if elected.

1.    Consciousness of mental health

a.     More SPS hosted events throughout the semester

b.     Mental health sensitivity training for professors and faculty to start an honest dialog with all students

c.      Incorporation of mental health awareness during First Year Seminars

2.    Transparency between the student body and student leaders

a.     Hold ASLMU office hours in communal spaces around campus to allow every single student’s voice to be heard

b.     Displaying artistic student talent on a weekly basis

c.      Stimulate conversation and execution of inter-org activities

3.    Commuter and transfer student awareness

a.     Publicizing the commuter and transfer student lounges

b.     Create better accessibility for commuter students to participate in Student Housing events

c.      Create a more comprehensive map for students to understand the nick names and lingo of on campus facilities
