Vanessa Akaraiwe

Expected Graduation: May 2027 | Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Major Loyola Marymount University is a vibrant community built on the values of inclusion, justice, and equity. As a student deeply committed to fostering a more inclusive and culturally aware campus, I am running for Vice President of Cultural Justice & Affairs to advocate for students of all backgrounds and ensure that every voice is heard. My leadership experience has prepared me to take on this role with dedication and effectiveness. As the Social Media & Marketing Head for Sisters In Solidarity, I have worked to amplify the voices of underrepresented students, build community, and promote cultural awareness. Additionally, my role in LMU’s fashion show as Model Coordinator has strengthened my ability to lead diverse groups, coordinate initiatives, and create spaces where students feel valued and represented. Beyond my leadership roles, I have been actively involved in mentoring and community outreach. As a math tutor at Numerade, I have helped students overcome academic challenges, reinforcing my passion for equity in education. My past work coordinating real estate programs at LMU’s College of Business has also given me experience in program development and organizational leadership. If elected, I will prioritize initiatives that enhance socio economic inclusivity, cultural awareness, and support for undocumented students. I will work closely with the Office of Intercultural Affairs, Ethnic and Intercultural Services, and student affinity groups to ensure that our policies and programming reflect the needs of our diverse student body. I will also advocate for stronger DEI efforts, ensure accessibility to resources for first-generation and undocumented students, and foster dialogue through events like Dream Action Week and First Gen Awareness Week. My vision is to create a campus where every student, regardless of background, feels empowered and supported. I am ready to listen, collaborate, and take action to make meaningful change at LMU. I would be honored to serve as your VP of Cultural Justice & Affairs. Let’s build a more just and inclusive LMU—together.

Vote Vanessa Akaraiwe for VP of Cultural Justice & Affairss

Jade Calabria

My name is Jade, and I am honored to serve as your Vice President of Academic Affairs. This year, I’ve worked tirelessly to enhance academic resources and create meaningful experiences for our campus. From doubling the textbook fund and expanding homework support sites to ensuring free scantrons and green books are always available. I’ve also focused on enriching our learning environment beyond the classroom. And, in one of the biggest events of the year, I brought Bill Nye to campus, giving students an unforgettable opportunity to engage with a world-renowned science communicator. I am running for reelection because there is still more work to be done. I want to continue advocating for your academic needs, increasing resources, and bringing innovative programming to LMU. I would be honored to have your vote, thank you!

Manolo Guzman

I am Manolo Guzman, and I am running to be the next Vice President of Student Wellness. I am a junior political science major with a minor in international relations. The VP of Student Wellness position perfectly intersects two areas of my interest: Government and Wellness. As you can tell by my areas of study, I have become infatuated with governance. I have spent every weekday over the last two and a half years learning the science of leadership. I am excited to use this practice to help my fellow students. Outside the classroom, I have experience as a high school student representative to the school board. During this time, I helped facilitate the voting on and implementation of my school's name change. I am a Beta Theta Pi member, holding a chair position. Beta has given me a thorough understanding of student organizations, especially sorority and fraternity life. As an LMU intramural referee, I gained an appreciation for the program as an essential physical wellness outlet on our campus. I am also in the process of founding a cycling club at LMU. Which will help bolster our campus culture of wellness. During my time as VP of Student Wellness, I have several goals to achieve. Physical wellness is the basis of a happy life; student organizations are essential to a successful college experience. Our club sports, physical wellness clubs, and sports teams need all the support they can get. As VP of Student Wellness, I would always make myself available to their needs. More specifically, I would make sure that the student organizations and clubs on campus gain more exposure to the student body and the board of funding. I also want to see more student vendors, organizations, and clubs at Wellness Wednesday. I want to start a wellness podcast where we give tips on taking care of oneself physically and mentally. Finally, I want to increase student exposure to LMU Cares. I am a junior at LMU and only realized this year that I have access to this program; that must change. I am eager to bring my passion, experience, and dedication to the role of Vice President of Student Wellness. My goal is to enhance the well-being of every student at LMU and foster a culture of inclusivity, accessibility, and support. I will ensure that every student has the resources, opportunities, and community they need to thrive.

Allegra Coleman

My name is Allegra Imari Coleman and I’m a junior Journalism and Public Relations student here at LMU and I’m running to be your 2025-2026 ASLMU Vice President of Cultural Affairs and Justice. Loyola Marymount University prides itself on fostering an inclusive and socially conscious community, but there is still much work to be done to ensure that all students—regardless of socioeconomic background, race, or immigration status—feel supported and empowered. As your Vice President of Cultural Affairs and Justice, I am committed to not only advocating for inclusivity and equity but also ensuring that our university takes meaningful steps toward social justice and accessibility for all. This past year, I served as an ASLMU Senator, where I worked diligently to pass resolutions that directly impact students' daily lives, including the "Food for Fines" resolution, which allows students to donate canned goods to the food pantry in exchange for reduced parking fines—turning financial barriers into an opportunity for community support. I’m also working on a resolution to ensure that LMU’s food pantry provides hygiene products, such as soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, recognizing that basic needs go beyond food alone. Beyond my role as senator, my personal and professional experiences have shaped my passion for advocacy. As a Black woman at LMU, I understand firsthand the challenges that students of color face on campus. I have actively advocated for increasing the availability and visibility of resources that many students don’t know exist. Through my involvement in Agape and my work with the Center for Service and Action, I have been deeply engaged in community service and student life, further solidifying my commitment to fostering an inclusive campus.

As Vice President of Cultural Affairs and Justice, I will:

● Address the threat of DEI initiatives by ensuring that LMU remains a space where all students, especially those from marginalized communities, are supported.

● Secure additional funding for cultural RSOs to allow these organizations to thrive and hold large-scale events.

● Promote campus resources by making them more accessible and visible, so students know where to find support.

● Strengthen collaborations between student groups, Ethnic and Intercultural Services, and university leadership to create a stronger network of advocacy and action.

I am ready to serve as the bridge between students and administration and ensure that cultural affairs and justice remain at the forefront of ASLMU’s mission. Together, we can build a more inclusive, informed, and empowered campus.
